Roslyn Primary School ensures its staff provide a culturally safe and inclusive learning and playing environment for students.
In 2019 our staff were involved in the Cultural Understanding and Safety Training. The training involved deepening our staff’s understanding of indigenous culture, the importance of equity and inclusion in education practice, and what schools can do to provide a culturally safe learning environment for Koorie students.
As part of our commitment to providing a culturally safe and inclusive learning environment, we ensure that we authentically embed an indigenous perspective across our curriculum. We acknowledge that Aboriginal people are the First Peoples who have an ongoing connection to this country beyond 40,000 years. We ensure our students understand key events, like observance of the National Government Apology to Australia’s Indigenous People for the forced removal of Aboriginal children (Sorry Day), and NAIDOC Week, which celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures each July.
